MDA Courses

The Bioinformatics and Genomics Department of the Centro de Investigación Príncipe Felipe (CIPF) in Valencia (Spain) and the Functional Genomics Node of the Spanish National Bioinformatics Institute (INB) organize a series of theoretical and practical courses on microarray data analysis.

The course

The courses are oriented to experimentalists, end-users and PhD students who want to learn about the state-of-the-art of basis and concepts of data analysis methodologies in this fast developing area. Students will acquire the necessary skills for analyzing their own data using some of the most advanced software packages, the GEPAS and the babelomics.

Lectures and hands-on sessions are taught in the facilities of the CIPF, which provide the ideal environment for the organization of bioinformatic courses.

Official language of the course is English.

Social activities

Social activities are organized during the course to favor networking and exchange of experiences among the students, as well as to promote a fruitful dialog between teachers and students. The week after the course is Fallas, one of the most popular folk festivals in Spain, so a festive atmosphere can be enjoyed in the city.

About the organizers

The course is organized and taught by the developers of the GEPAS, the most cited web-based package for microarray data analysis (see citations) and the Babelomics, also among the most popular tools for functional profiling of high threoughput experiments (see citations), with an average of 1000 experiments analyzed per day in both tools.
Our research group, now in the
Bioinformatics Department at the CIPF in Valencia, is actively working on problems related to microarray data analysis. We organize courses on regular basis; on-line tutorial and courses are also available.

The organizers are:

  • Joaquín Dopazo
  • David Montaner
  • Ana Conesa
  • Ignacio Medina
But other members of the department as well as invited teachers also contrubute to the courses.

Locations

Other locations at which this course is organized at least on yearly basis are:

Graduate School of Biological, Medical and Veterinary Sciences, University of Cambridge, UK
The National e-Science Centre, Edinburgh, UK
Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciéncia (IGC), Oeiras, Portugal

Other places host the course occasionally. See the coming courses here.
